The graveyard is a sad and quiet place where people can come to pay their respect to prisoners who died here. Some soldiers from the present day war in Iraq are also being buried here beside their great-great grandfathers.

There are hundreds of rows of graves in the Andersonville National Cemetary, a few hundred of these graves are known soldiers who have died inside of the Confederate prison.
